New Zealand Partner Visa

Are you thinking of migrating to New Zealand as a partner to a New Zealand resident? Well, you can do that quite easily with the New Zealand Partner Visa. As long as you already have a partner staying in New Zealand or applying for a New Zealand Visa, then you can take all the advantage that comes with the visa type.


Things to know about the New Zealand partner Visa

  • Your partner should be of the opposite sex/ same sex, to whom you are legally married, in a civil union or defacto relationship.
  • You should have a genuine and stable relationship with your partner.
  • You and your partner should be aged at least 18 years. While below 18 will need the consent of a parent or guardian.
  • To apply for the New Zealand Partner Visa, you and your partner must not be close relatives.
  • You would have to provide evidence of your partnership. This you can do with official documents like your marriage certificate, pictures, or evidence of joint payment.
Partnership conditions that are not accepted for the approval of New Zealand Partner Visa

A New Zealand partnership visa would not be approved in the following cases of partnership:
  • A partnership which  is only by shared accommodation (flat mates) during work or even during the holiday.
  • Partners visiting each other frequently but still maintaining their personal homes.
Also, for the New Zealand Partnership Visa to be approved, some things are accesses. Some of them include:
  • How long you and your partner have been together
  • Your living arrangement as a couple and how long you have been living together
  • The financial aspect between the two of you and how you share financial responsibility or how you support each other financially.
  • Jointly owned properties
  • Your kids and the plan you have for their care.
However, note that in some cases your partner’s visa might not be one of the eligible visa which can support partnership. Therefore it is important that you find out about this before you start making plans to go for the New Zealand Partner Visa.

Also, sometimes, it is only allowed for you to work and study for certain period of time as your partner.
